Nijigen no Mori #1: Godzilla Invasion at Awaji Island

Godzilla has invaded the amusement park Nijigen no Mori in Awaji Island, Hyogo. Join the mission to battle this menacing Godzilla with exciting attractions for a memorable Japan Trip.

In this 2-part Nijigen no Mori series, we will take you on an adventure through two different theme parks. Our first stop is ‘Godzilla Interception Operation Awaji–National Awaji-Island Institute of Godzilla Disaster–’, and a sudden meeting with the lovable Shin Chan.

A Battle with Godzilla

This is a Godzilla themed amusement park at Nijigen no Mori, housing the world’s massive life-sized Godzilla. Its upper body measures about 55m long, 23m high and 25m wide.
Kicking off the mission with a movie by TOHO movie studio, visitors can get closer to the Godzilla through its zipline and shooting games to destroy the Godzilla cells. The short movie has English subtitles.

The ZIPLINE attraction has two courses that visitors can choose from:
・Internal Surveillance Course: glide into its gaping mouth
・Body Surveillance Course: glide along the side of its body
The staff will give you a transparent pouch (you can hang on your neck) to carry your smartphone as you ziplining.

It even include the world’s first GODZILLA MUSEUM, featuring large-scale dioramas of the scenes from the movies, movie props and more. Once visitors completes each attraction, you will receive an original “Mission Complete Card” with an original design.
(p/s this was my first time filming, so I couldn’t get a proper shot of me entering its mouth T.T sorry)

The attraction takes preventive measures against Covid-19, such as measuring temperatures, sanitisers available, and waiting areas have lines to maintain social distance. Please wear a mask when you visit there.

On the way to the next theme park, I found many adorable Shin Chan “life-size” statues around the area near the Godzilla attraction. These are not inside of the actual Crayon Shin Chan Adventure Park, so they are free. But if you want to enter the Crayon Shin Chan Adventure Park, you must buy a separate ticket.

Crayon Shin Chan Adventure Park consist of two adventurous attractions and three interesting mini spots. The attractions involve physical activity, such as a flying fox ride and a huge obstacle course. Perfect for families with kids!

What is Nijigen no Mori

Nijigen no Mori literally translates to “two-dimensional forest”. It is an amusement park combining the worlds of some of the most iconic Japanese manga, anime, and gaming in Hyogo Prefectural Park (134.8 hectares/333 acres) on Awaji Island, surrounded by nature.
Apart from the Godzilla park, it has Naruto x Boruto, Crayon Shin Chan and Dragon Quest parks, including a nighttime multimedia experience ‘Fire bird’. Each adventures has their own ticket counter or machine, so you can but it there. Plus, you can camp overnight at its glamping site.

◆ How to Travel to Each Attraction

Inside Tram-car (filmed in Autumn)

You can get from one attraction to another with the ‘Tram-car & Cart (トラムカー・カート)’ service. It only cost JPY500 for unlimited ride for 1 day.

Tips for Muslims: Is there a prayer space?

The answer is NO. It doesn’t have a designated prayer space. But as you can see a bit from the Shin Chan and Tram-car videos, the park is huge with a lot of open spaces.
As a Muslim visitor, I just pray in a less crowded garden or park. For wudhu, I always carry like a small bottle to use it at public toilets and such. Make sure to bring your own prayer mat and accessories!

What about food? Places like this can be hard to find halal food. Usually, I choose seafood or vegetable menus at the food court. If you are uncomfortable with eating such menus, you can bring your own utensils and food.

◆ Access

It is located at Awaji Island, which is close to Kobe (about 30km from Kobe). You can get there by public transport. I rode a bus, which brings me straight from Osaka to Nijigen no Mori.
